We have always been proud of our volunteers.  Now, we have even more reason to be proud.  After our volunteer retreat, we were able to restructure and reorganize so that we now have some very wonderful people working with us on staff.  Not all the positions have been filled yet and some have been split into "co-positions" but the new staff are as following:

- Grant Writer - Noeen Sarfraz
- Community Initiative Coordinators - Max Weddington, Matt Boehme, Casey Prammanasudh
- Clinic Volunteer Coordinators - Sarah Tran and Max Weddington
- Operations Manager - Joseph Proffer
- Public Relations - Daniel Tinker
- Graphics - Michael Nguyen
- Social Media - Laura Varney
- Website - Lauren Rogers

Special Events, Marketing, and Administration has not yet been filled and there are also positions that need more help.  Specifically, we would like to have more volunteer grant writers.  If you've never worked on a grant before but are interested, please contact Noeen at [email protected].  If you are interested in any of these other open positions, please contact [email protected]

We're very excited about all the changes coming up.  Join hands with us!

On August 11,  Manos Juntas Foundation had a retreat just for volunteers to plan our efforts to assess the health and needs of our neighborhood (Gatewood - 10Penn). There were a dozen volunteers in attendance of the first meeting with more than a dozen more joining throughout this week. A genuine excitement could be felt in collectively putting together our plans to get involved with the Gatewood-10Penn community

Every volunteer in attendance throughout the week has come together in support of our new initiatives. Our own head physician and founder, Dr. Boyd Shook and the many volunteers associated are pressing for the assessment of the surrounding area's health to be completed Labor Day weekend. Our plans currently include posting fliers by this next weekend and completing the verbally administered surveys, written by Dr. Shook, Max Weddington, Matt Boehme, and Casey Prammanasudh.

Below is a video of the presentation we had.  Please contact Trammy if you are interested in helping, know someone who would like to help, or have any questions.  Her email and phone number are [email protected] and (405) 605 - 3101.

On August 1st, we had a volunteer social to get volunteers to get to know each other a little better, have a mini-fundraiser, and get the word out on some upcoming events and projects.  If you were unable to attend, the presentation given is show above.

Just a quick thanks to Teapioca Lounge for letting us have our social there.  We really appreciated it :)

Also, thank you to everyone who made it out!

If you have any questions about the presentation,  are interested in volunteering with Manos Juntas, or know of anyone who would like to help, please contact TramAnh Lai: [email protected]

Hello everyone,

I'm at the office waiting for some fliers to print out so I can bring it to our documentary screening tonight.  Manos Juntas Foundation is showing a free screening of The Weight of the Nation.  This is an awesome documentary talking about obesity in America.  For more information, please come to our screening or go to their website at http://theweightofthenation.hbo.com/.  This is a four-part documentary series that we will show over the span of August.  The four parts are related but can be viewed independently.  The showings will be at Epworth United Methodist Church located at 1901 North Douglas Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73106 every Tuesday in August (Aug. 7, Aug. 14, Aug. 21, and Aug. 28) at 7pm.  There will be light snacks and information about Manos Juntas at every screening.  Furthermore, we will be having a different welcoming speaker every night.

Part I - "Consequences" - Welcoming Video from Mayor Mick Cornett
Part II - "Choices" - Welcoming speech from Dr. John Belardo, M.D.
Part III - "Children in Crisis" - Welcoming speech from Dr. Mary Ann McCaffree, M.D.
Part IV - "Challenges" - Welcoming speech from Councilman Dr. Ed Shadid, M.D.

I am very excited and grateful that all these people could come.  I hope you all are able to come out to support us and learn a little about obesity!

Hope to see you there!  If you have any questions about the screening, please contact me at 405 - 605 - 3101 or [email protected].
